Jenin, West Bank
Supporting displaced children in Jenin through education, care and opportunity.
About Al Tafawk
Founded in 2011 in Jenin Refugee Camp, Al Tafawk means Excellence. It began as a community response to education disrupted by violence and displacement.
The original centre was repeatedly raided and was destroyed during the forced evacuation of the camp in 2025. With international donor support, Al Tafawk reopened in Jenin City and now serves displaced refugee children who have few accessible education options.
Mission
Basic literacy, homework help, English lessons and a daily rhythm of learning for children whose schooling has been interrupted.
A safe, licensed and nurturing environment where children can be seen as children living under extreme stress.
Play, care and community support that help displaced children imagine a future beyond fear and upheaval.
Timeline
The centre starts in Jenin Refugee Camp as a kindergarten and afternoon learning space.
Violence and destruction in the camp intensify. Children and staff face repeated disruption and trauma.
Operation Iron Wall forces the camp's evacuation and the original Al Tafawk Centre is destroyed.
A renovated and licensed centre in Al Jabriyat supports 60 to 65 displaced children without government funding.
